In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge form and conventions of real media products?

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge form and conventions of real media products?

Use

-Camera angles: We followed the forms and conventions when it came to camera angles. We used familiar camera angles as we didn’t want audiences to feel confused and alienate them, we wanted out music video to feel familiar. We followed the forms and conventions because we wanted represent our artist in a certain way. By using the forms conventions we were able to show our artists emotions and representations through the use of close ups and tracking shots all of which are used frequently in this genre of music. We followed Andrew Goodwin’s theory of relating the lyrics to the visual. We did this by using another form and convention in close ups.  This illustrated the story in  a way that audiences are used to.
-Cultural stereotype: We followed the forms and conventions of the cultural stereotype with the clothes and representation of the artist. It is common for a young male to be wearing jeans and a jacket so we did nothing new here.  We also played on the stereotype of this artist and song being about a lower class standard of living. Therefore the locations of our music video were in less developed areas etc. rough streets and dark alleyways.
-Prop: We developed the video by adding our own ideas into the video, by giving our artist a guitar as a prop, which he would keep on him wherever he goes, using it as a shield. We wanted to follow the codes and conventions by giving the artist a prop to use, and developed it by making it represent his feelings and emotions. By doing this we integrated performance into narrative.

Develop

-No choreographed movements: This is a common feature of music videos as said by Archer, we opted to use a single character which would allow the focus to be purely on him, going against the common stereotype of the pop culture where you would have the main artist surrounded by dancers and other people.
-Effects: During the editing process we added a lot of different effects into the video to make it look more appealing and stand out. This was challenging, as we had to make sure that we used the right effects in order to make it all flow together, and for it all to match.
-No Obvious Narrative: Our video was more of a performance based video with very limited narrative, however it also had scenes from day to day life.
-No Other Characters: We didn't use any other characters in the video and based it purely on one actor. This allowed us to develop the video by using more close ups of the actor which shown his emotions and expression a lot clearer.
